A sports journalist residing in Los Angeles was involved in a horrific accident when her portable charger exploded while she was sleeping, causing her to suffer chemical burns in her arm and hair, in addition to creating a hole in her bed.
In a video clip she posted on her social media accounts, Ashley Neville said, according to Fox News: “Everything caught fire. My bed burned down, and I no longer had a place to sleep. I was saved by a fire blanket that was a gift from my father.”
Neville explained that the explosion of the charger caused her phone to overheat, which prevented her from calling emergency services. She had to scream from the balcony of her apartment so her neighbors could call the police and ambulance, who arrived within just three minutes.
Neville warned the public against using portable chargers, saying: “Make sure you have a fire blanket, it saved my life. You can’t imagine the danger of these small devices.”
Neville confirmed that this incident prompted her to reconsider the issue of banning portable chargers on planes, stressing that this danger could threaten anyone, anywhere.
