Today, Thursday, Real Madrid issued an official statement announcing that it has submitted “all available evidence” to the European Football Association (UEFA) in the context of the ongoing investigation into allegations that Vinicius Junior was subjected to racist insults.
The details of the case go back to Vinicius informing the match referee, François Letexier, that he received racist statements from a Benfica player during the Champions League qualifying play-off match, which took place in Lisbon on Tuesday.
Real Madrid has accused Benfica’s international winger, Argentine Gianluca Pristiani, who in turn denied any wrongdoing. On Wednesday, UEFA announced the start of a disciplinary investigation into the events that took place in the match, before the Spanish club issued this new statement.
Real Madrid’s announcement said: “Real Madrid announces that it has provided UEFA with all available evidence relating to the events,” stressing that the club “actively cooperated with the investigation opened by UEFA following the unacceptable racist incidents that took place in that match.”
The statement stressed that Real Madrid is “grateful for the great support and consensus” that Vinicius Junior has received from various circles in the world of football, and confirms that it “will continue to work, in cooperation with all institutions, to eliminate racism, violence and hatred in sports and in society.” (Russia Today)
