The Snapchat platform announced the launch of a subscription service for content creators, in a move similar to previous steps by companies affiliated with Meta. Instagram and Facebook have provided a similar option that enables users to subscribe in exchange for premium content, which is what Snapchat is currently seeking to offer.
Within the framework of this new system, subscribers to content creators’ accounts on Snapchat will have the opportunity to access special content via “Snaps” and “Stories.” In addition, subscribers will have priority in receiving responses from the content creator, in addition to an ad-free experience of watching stories.
Snapchat markets this feature as a tool that gives creators “the freedom to experiment” and helps them “build a recurring income stream,” which supports their continuity and continued engagement on the platform. The platform will enable content makers to determine the monthly subscription value they wish to charge from followers, with the ability to choose from the price categories proposed by Snapchat, which provides them flexibility in determining the optimal model for their audience and the nature of the content they provide.
Launch date and geographical scope:
Starting February 23, the subscriptions feature will be available to a select number of US-based creators, and iOS device users within the US will be able to subscribe to their accounts. This feature is expected to expand in the coming weeks to include Canada, France, and the United Kingdom.
