The head of the “Arab Tawheed” Party, Wiam Wahhab, raises his criticism of the political authority due to the tax issue, expressing his dissatisfaction with what he considers to be a conflict in the positions of some parties participating in the government.
In his tweet on the “X” website, Wahhab pointed out that some representatives and blocs declare their rejection of taxes, while at the same time they are represented within the Council of Ministers, asking: “How long will the duality of positions and people’s stupidity continue?” He added that what is required “only once” is for people to speak “in a gang,” as he said, but “frankly and clearly.”
Later, Wahhab wrote again to “X,” speaking about the events of the cabinet session: “It seems that President Nawaf Salam distributed sleeping pills to the ministers, representatives of the parties who today rejected the increase, yesterday, and the decision was made while they were sleeping.” He added sarcastically: “What are these liar gangs… you are ridiculous… what a lack of modesty.”
This position of Weam Wahhab comes in light of the escalation of political and popular debate after the Council of Ministers approved tax increases, including fuel prices and value-added tax (TVA), under the pretext of providing money to finance salary increases for the public sector, the military, and retirees.
