Representative Qablan Qablan, a member of the “Development and Liberation” bloc, explained in a statement to “NBN” channel, that the Legislation and Consultation Authority’s authority is limited to providing advice on administrative matters, and it cannot interpret or change the applicable laws.

Qabalan stressed the need for the Lebanese government to rush to issue the implementing decrees for the 16th district, stressing the importance of holding parliamentary elections on the constitutionally specified date, in order to preserve the functioning of democratic life.

In the context of the current political disputes, he stressed that if the positions of the political parties differ, the judiciary must stay away from political conflicts and commit to applying the current law as it is, without interpretations that go beyond the clear texts.

He also saw that “Saad Hariri is a great national figure with a great national identity, and his continued absence leads to a great imbalance.”

Qabalan’s statements come in the midst of a growing political and legal controversy over how to implement the election law, especially with regard to the 16th district designated for expatriates, amid demands to speed up the completion of implementing decrees, and warnings against involving the judiciary in disputes of a political nature.

This issue is considered an examination of the extent of the executive authority’s commitment to constitutional deadlines, and the ability of institutions to separate law and politics.
