The Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs, Hanin Al-Sayed, made a statement to Al-Hadath TV that nearly 500,000 Syrians have been able to return to their country in a safe and sustainable way.

Al-Sayed also explained that efforts are continuing to address the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon in a way that preserves their dignity, stressing at the same time that the Ministry has provided a helping hand to more than 150,000 Lebanese citizens who were affected as a result of the war.

The Minister of Social Affairs’ statements come in the midst of increasing official and political controversy over the Syrian displacement file in Lebanon, in light of escalating economic and social pressures borne by the state and host communities. These statements fall within the Lebanese government’s efforts to formulate a comprehensive vision based on the safe, dignified and sustainable return of refugees, in addition to strengthening social support programs for the Lebanese groups most affected by the consequences of the war and the accumulated crises.
