As the end of the week approaches, attention in Lebanon is turning to the expected weather changes, as forecasts warn of heavy rains and strong winds that will precede a noticeable rise in temperatures, which is unusual for the month of February, before the turbulent weather conditions return again.

In this context, weather map analyst Ihab Younis explained, in an interview with, “The weather is witnessing temporary stability as of Thursday morning, continuing through Thursday and Friday, before the country is affected by the edges of a depression.”

Younis added, “The premise of the situation is represented by torrential rain on Friday evening, while Friday’s weather is a dusty day as a result of the entry of dust-laden winds from Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula, which may lead to a delay or obstruction of the precipitation if the dust coincides with the torrential front.”

He also pointed out that “the deluge front on Friday evening is accompanied by snowfall at altitudes of 2,200 and 2,100 meters, before it quickly declines to 1,700 and 1,600 meters as the situation intensifies.”

He also stated that “the rain will continue to be light to moderate in intensity, accompanied by lightning, thunder, and hail showers, in addition to active winds whose speed ranges between 30 and 80 km/hour.”

Younis continued, “The snow will continue on Friday night and Saturday morning at altitudes of 1,700 and 1,600 metres, and it will gradually rise on Saturday morning to 1,800 and 1,900 metres, then to the range of 2,000-1,900 meters on Saturday afternoon as the situation subsides, if precipitation is available.” He added, “Some showers will resume starting Saturday evening and Sunday morning.”

Younis predicted “a relatively strong heat wave for the month of February, with temperatures higher than average between 8 and 14 degrees,” noting that “the peak of the wave will be Monday and Sunday night – dawn next Monday, and will begin to subside on Tuesday.”

In conclusion, he pointed out that “the country is again affected by a depression next Wednesday, bringing rain and snow at altitudes ranging between 1,600 and 1,300 meters.”
