Then MP Ghazi Zuaiter delivered a speech on behalf of the leadership of the Amal Movement, in which he affirmed that “February 6 constituted a project that targeted the outcomes of the Israeli occupation of Lebanon, which occupied 66 percent of Lebanese territory in 1982.”

He added, “The February 6 uprising overthrew and buried the Israeli-American project that was imposed on Lebanon, and was a correction of the path of deviation led by President Nabih Berri.”

Zuaiter also warned of the danger of resorting to military institutions or involving them in any conflict with its people, praising the role of Army Commander Rudolph Heikal and his firm positions, especially his response to US Congressman Senator Lindsey Graham during his visit to the United States of America.

He sent a letter of thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, describing him as “the one entrusted with the constitution, the land, and the people,” and praising “his courageous stance in announcing the formation of a governmental political committee, in partnership and consultation with the Parliament, to launch a general amnesty workshop for all Lebanese prisoners.”

Zuaiter stressed the principles of resistance, most notably “reconstruction, the release of prisoners, the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied points, the return of the Lebanese who were displaced under forced circumstances, and work to return them in light of the receipt of information about the disposal and sale of Lebanese lands inside Syria,” calling on “the three presidents to follow up on this file.”

Zuaiter concluded his speech by stressing that “the elections will be held on their current and effective legal date.”
