Katie Zakaria’s experience as White House spokeswoman ended after only five days in office, after US President Donald Trump informed her that this role might not be suitable for her, according to what the New York Times revealed.
In detail, Trump asked Zakaria to reconsider continuing her new position, explaining to reporters at the White House that he told her in the morning: “Frankly, if I were in your place, I would rethink the matter.” He indicated that he would speak to her again after his return from a trip to the state of Georgia, leaving her the freedom to make the decision, adding that he asked her: “Oh Katie, do you need this? I don’t think you need it.”
These rapid developments came a few days after Zakaria assumed her duties, amid pressure and intense media scrutiny that followed an appearance described as troubled in the press conference hall on Tuesday, in addition to questions raised about her professional background.
Although Trump praised Zakaria and described her as a “loyal supporter,” and acknowledged that she had been subjected to poor treatment by the media, he expressed clear reservations about her ability to continue as a main spokeswoman for his administration, concluding by saying: “Maybe this role is not appropriate for her,” a position that preceded her official departure from the position.
