Imprisoned Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, face a new judicial station in the United States, after a federal court in New York set tomorrow, Thursday, the date for a hearing to bring new charges against them, months after their arrest and transfer to American territory.
The Russian “Novosti” agency reported, based on a judicial document, that the hearing related to Case No. “S5 11 Cr. 205” will be held on October 15, 2026, at eleven in the morning, New York time, to bring new charges against Maduro and his wife related to conspiracy to torture detainees, including American citizens, charges that were added earlier this month.
This anticipated session comes more than nine months after the military operation carried out by US forces inside Venezuela on January 3, 2026, which resulted in the arrest of Maduro and Flores and their transfer to New York to face charges related to what Washington describes as “drug-related terrorism.”
The couple had previously appeared before the Federal Court for the Southern District of New York, where they denied the charges against them, while Maduro considered that the process of overthrowing him aimed to seize control of Venezuela’s oil wealth.
On the political level in Caracas, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has taken over the administration of the country’s affairs since Maduro’s arrest, and has worked to strengthen cooperation with the administration of US President Donald Trump.
Following this political shift, the two sides reached an unprecedented agreement for the United States to control approximately one-fifth of Venezuela’s oil reserves, following Maduro’s arrest and the transfer of power to Rodriguez.
