An urgent warning from Google following the discovery of a software vulnerability exploited by widespread cyber attacks

Google has warned commercial institutions and official bodies of the possibility of being exposed to large-scale hacking operations, following the disclosure of a critical software vulnerability in the remote support systems of the American company “BeyondTrust,” which specializes in cybersecurity.

The Threat Analysis Group at Google and Mandiant explained, in statements reported by Reuters, that successful exploitation of this vulnerability gives attackers broad powers that include accessing credentials, downloading files, and taking full control of the host device.

In a related context, Google indicated on its official blog that a hacking group suspected of being linked to China, known as “Armory Castle,” had already exploited this vulnerability last August.

It is reported that the vulnerability affects the “BeyondTrust Remote Support” system, which is a vital enterprise tool used by IT teams to provide technical support, and remote access to computers and various systems to fix their malfunctions.
