Beirut – Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stressed the importance of moving from general understandings to practical and specific implementation mechanisms, with the aim of stabilizing stability in the south and enhancing the presence of the state and its security institutions.
This came during his meeting with US Senator James Lankford in Senegal in Beirut, in the presence of the US Ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Issa, and the accompanying delegation, where the two sides discussed the current developments in Lebanon and the region, specifically the situation in the south and the path to implementing the tripartite framework.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed the necessity of setting a clear timetable for mutual commitments, and establishing a precise mechanism to verify implementation based on the principles of reciprocity and interimity, in order to avoid understandings remaining without actual translation on the ground, and to confirm the commitment of all parties.
The two sides discussed ways to continue American support for the Lebanese army to enable it to continue its tasks and extend state authority over the entire Lebanese territory, in addition to reviewing the path of return, recovery and reconstruction in the areas affected by the war, and ways to support this stage politically and economically and secure the necessary aid for it.
This meeting comes in light of the intensification of Lebanese contacts with the American side regarding the arrangements for the south and the mechanisms for implementing the commitments of the next stage, in conjunction with the government’s tireless efforts to restore full state authority.
