Today, Tuesday, the US Central Command (Centcom) denied reports issued by official Iranian media regarding the crash of a US Navy helicopter in the Red Sea, stressing that all aircraft and military personnel deployed in the Middle East region are safe and stationed at their locations.
Iranian media outlets, including Fars Agency, had circulated news of the crash of an MH-60R helicopter belonging to the US Navy, claiming that radar data showed that the height of the helicopter had reached “zero” above sea level, based on monitoring an emergency situation and broadcasting a distress symbol on Monday evening, followed by the plane’s disappearance from tracking screens off the coast of the Saudi city of Yanbu.
On the other hand, Centcom categorically refuted this story without providing additional details about the reasons for the emergency signal being issued or the helicopter temporarily disappearing from the tracking systems.
This incident gains great importance in light of the high regional tension and the intense American military presence in the Red Sea, amid an ongoing media war and conflicting narratives between Washington and Tehran regarding any potential incidents affecting American military assets in the region.
