Apple is preparing to bring about radical changes in the sectors of Mac computers and tablets, by developing a new generation of MacBook Pro computers with OLED screens that support touch and a lighter design, in addition to launching the OLED screen in the iPad Mini for the first time.
In the details of the redesign of the MacBook Pro, Bloomberg indicated that Apple has re-engineered the internal components of the device by minimizing some parts and rearranging them to significantly reduce its weight, especially in the 16-inch version, whose current generation weighs about 4.8 pounds (2.18 kilograms). The company is also developing stronger hinges for the screen to handle touch pressure and reduce its movement during use, in addition to developing devices under the code names K114 and K116.
The move to OLED screens – which the company is developing after the iPad Pro – is a qualitative addition to provide higher contrast and deeper blacks, while the biggest shift is highlighted in the introduction of the touch screen for the first time in Apple mobile devices. However, the company does not plan to transform the device into a hybrid computer or dispense with the keyboard and trackpad. Rather, the screen will become an additional means of interaction, abandoning the upper notch and adopting the “Dynamic Island” design.
To keep pace with this development, Apple is preparing the macOS operating system through a version that includes changes intended to support touch input known as macOS Golden Gate, while new devices are currently being tested with the macOS 27.2 version. This represents a historic shift for the Mac interface, which was designed over the past years to rely entirely on the mouse cursor or the trackpad, without this meaning a trend towards merging the Mac OS and iPad OS systems.
In terms of tablets, Apple is preparing to launch the new generation of iPad Mini equipped with an OLED screen during the period between late October and November. The new device will feature a faster processor, in addition to moving the front FaceTime camera to the horizontal edge so that it is in a more convenient position when used horizontally.
