A delegation from the “National Meeting for Public Sector Workers,” headed by Imad Yaghi, and including Labor Affairs Coordinator and Board Member of the National Social Security Fund, Dr. Mohsen Noun, visited the Head of the Social Affairs Department in Baalbek-Hermel Governorate, Zeinab Al-Najjar. The meeting discussed the reality of social protection in the region, and the conditions of the most needy families in light of the difficult economic and living conditions.
The research focused on the needs of the most vulnerable groups, especially those with limited income, the elderly, people with disabilities, and children at risk of dropping out of school due to living crises, in addition to ways to enhance citizens’ benefit from available programs, services, and assistance.
The delegation stressed the need to give special priority to those displaced as a result of Israeli attacks, specifically the most needy families, within social protection plans, to secure their basic needs and to follow up on their living, health and educational conditions to alleviate their suffering. The delegation also stressed the centrality of the state’s role in enhancing social protection, calling for a move from reactive policies to preventive measures that ensure the protection of families and preserve their ability to secure food, health care, and education.
For her part, Al-Najjar reviewed the work mechanisms of the Department of Social Affairs and the programs and services it provides, volunteering to explain the challenges that hinder meeting the increasing needs, and at the same time stressing the importance of enhancing cooperation with all concerned parties to achieve the desired goals.
