The military confrontation in Yemen has entered a new phase with the Chairman of the Presidential Command Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, announcing today, Monday, the launch of Operation “Yemen Dawn,” coinciding with the government forces’ announcement of control over the Dhubab District and strategic sites overlooking the Bab al-Mandab Strait, following fierce confrontations with the Houthi group.
The official Yemeni News Agency reported that the “Homeland Shield” forces and the Giants’ Brigades, backed by the popular resistance, succeeded in retaking the Dhubab district, located west of Taiz Governorate, which overlooks one of the most sensitive sea lanes in the world, after the Houthis arrived in its vicinity about two weeks ago.
The agency explained that the forces carried out a large-scale military operation with air cover, targeting the Houthi movements and positions in several areas of the district, which resulted in tangible progress and control of very important sites, in addition to cutting off supply lines and routes leading to the Bab al-Mandab region to prevent the arrival of any Houthi reinforcements.
The confrontations, according to the official version, resulted in deaths and injuries among the Houthis, and the withdrawal of the remaining members of the Houthis, in addition to the destruction and damage of their military vehicles and equipment. Government forces are currently continuing combing efforts, securing the liberated areas, and cutting off supply routes.
The launch of Operation “Yemen Dawn” comes after a rapid field escalation witnessed in recent days, as the Yemeni forces announced the implementation of 1,122 targeting operations against Houthi sites and movements in the governorates of Saada, Al-Jawf, Taiz, and the Coast. Al-Alimi had previously called for general mobilization and joining the armed forces, announcing on Sunday the start of large-scale operations aimed at restoring areas under Houthi control and restoring state institutions.
Controlling the Dhubab District is of great strategic importance due to its proximity to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which represents the main gateway between the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, and is crossed by trade lines and basic global energy supplies. With the launch of Operation “Yemen Dawn,” government operations are moving toward a broader phase, with a focus on coastal areas and vital supply lines near Bab al-Mandab, in parallel with the continuation of battles on other fronts.
