From reform to industry... Bassat seeks to extract European support for Lebanon

The Minister of Economy and Trade, Amer Bassat, discussed with a high-level delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development mechanisms to enhance the path of economic reform and support the public and private sectors in Lebanon.

The meeting was an occasion to welcome the new Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean at the Bank, Hashim Abdelhakim, in the presence of Policy Director Dmitry Gvindadze and Beirut Office Director Alessandro Vittadini.

The talks focused on ways for the bank to contribute to modernizing the institutional governance of the public sector, in a way that supports comprehensive reform efforts in the country, in addition to expanding the scope of private sector financing.

The two sides discussed financing opportunities for the industrial sector and renewable energy projects, in addition to supporting small and medium enterprises as they are the backbone of the national economy, within the framework of the ongoing partnership and cooperation strategy between Lebanon and the European Bank.
