The military confrontation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Houthi group witnessed a noticeable escalation, following Riyadh’s announcement of the interception of ballistic missiles targeting Saudi territory in conjunction with intense air strikes launched by the coalition on several Yemeni governorates.
On Friday, the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced the interception and destruction of three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi group towards the city of Khamis Mushait, south of the kingdom. In a context related to Saudi military data, reports were received indicating the interception of a total of four ballistic missiles that were heading towards the city itself, which reflects a discrepancy in the announced numbers of missiles that were intercepted.
On the other hand, the Houthi group announced, earlier the same day, that Saudi aircraft launched dozens of air strikes targeting various sites and regions in Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa, and the governorates of Saada, Taiz, Hajjah, Amran, and Ibb.
These mutual field developments reflect the continuation of the cycle of military escalation between the two sides, which brings tension back to the forefront in light of the faltering efforts aimed at calming the situation.
