Prime Minister Nawaf Salam raised the ceiling of his political and development messages during an extensive field tour he conducted in the city of Nabatieh, stressing that his government’s top priority is to stop the Israeli attacks, achieve complete withdrawal from Lebanese territory, and secure a safe and dignified return for the people of the south to their towns and sources of livelihood.
Salam explained that his third visit to Nabatieh since the formation of the government reflects a practical commitment to follow-up, recalling that his first visit came the next day to gain confidence to listen directly to the needs of citizens. He pointed out that the government worked in cooperation with international institutions to secure the necessary resources to launch the recovery path, pointing out that he carried the needs of the South to both New York and Washington during his meetings with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, American officials, and the President of the World Bank.
Regarding the development aspect, Salam revealed that the Council for Development and Reconstruction launched 12 tenders during the month of October, including the restoration of five hospitals, including Nabatieh Governmental Hospital, the supply of rescue and firefighting mechanisms, and the rehabilitation of electricity stations and water networks. He also announced the completion of the restoration of the Nabatieh Palace, at the initiative of the Husseini Club, and the reopening of the State Security Center, the Civil Status Department, and the Public Security Center, with the imminent opening of the Palace of Justice, in addition to laying the foundation stone for the new Civil Defense headquarters. The Prime Minister is accompanied on his tour by the Ministers of Finance, Yassin Jaber, Minister of Labor, Muhammad Haider, and Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Ahmed Al-Hajjar, along with security leaders and heads of the relevant councils.
Salam began his tour from the Nabatieh Gendarmerie Company in Kfarjouz, offering a greeting of support to the officers and members of the Internal Security Forces and urging them to remain alongside the citizens, stressing that the path of recovery has begun and will not stop. In a transparent frankness with the people, he stressed that the size of the needs exceeds the individual capabilities of the Lebanese state, saying that he will not sell illusions, and that Lebanon needs major international funding to complete the path of progress.
On the political level, Salam stressed the importance of rebuilding a capable and effective state, “with one army and one decision, especially the decision of war and peace,” considering that this constitutes a guarantee to prevent the outbreak of new wars or giving pretexts for attacking Lebanon. He warned of the danger of pinning the country’s fate on regional settlements that might be delayed or come at the expense of Lebanon, questioning the feasibility of keeping the south displaced and the land occupied while awaiting the decisions of others.
In conclusion, Salam called on the Lebanese to rally around state institutions, considering them the first and last resort, and the true guarantee of security, stability, and the future of future generations.
