The teacher crisis is escalating: eroding salaries and suspended rights cry out to consciences

The Teachers Syndicate held the Minister of Finance fully responsible for the delay in disbursing a financial grant worth 200 billion Lebanese pounds, approved under a law in favor of the Compensation Fund, demanding that it be transferred immediately without any additional delay.

The union explained, in a statement carried by the National News Agency, that implementing the laws is an inevitable duty of the Ministry of Finance, stressing that the rights of teachers and retirees must not remain hostage to procrastination and administrative routine, especially in light of the continuous erosion of the legal value of these funds and the worsening living burdens on the beneficiaries.

In the same context, the union appealed to the government and the Minister of Finance to include the remaining 450 billion pounds in the draft budget for the year 2027, with an explicit text and clear appropriations that guarantee its disbursement, calling on the House of Representatives to confirm this commitment during the stages of discussing and approving the budget.

The union stressed that protecting the rights of teachers and supporting the compensation fund are a fundamental responsibility of the state, and are not just promises or donations that can be postponed, stressing the need to set an urgent timetable for disbursing the 200 billion liras grant.

The union concluded by stressing that it will continue to follow up on this file in various ways and defend the rights of the beneficiaries until the two basic demands are fully implemented: transferring the approved grant immediately, and securing appropriations for the remaining amount in the next budget in response to the increasing living pressures.
