The Syrian authorities thwarted an attempt to smuggle a huge shipment of narcotic substances coming from Lebanese territory towards the Damascus countryside, in a security operation that resulted in the seizure of hundreds of thousands of Captagon pills and the arrest of two people involved, according to what the official Syrian news agency, SANA, reported.
The Syrian Drug Control Administration stated, in a statement published on its channel on the Telegram platform today, Wednesday, that the Drug Control Branch in the Damascus countryside, in coordination with the Border Guard Forces, was able to thwart the operation following careful field investigations and follow-up.
The administration explained that the operation resulted in the seizure of 225,000 Captagon pills, in addition to the arrest of two people suspected of involvement in the smuggling network, named (M.H.) and (M.H.).
She added that the seized items were duly confiscated, and the detainees were referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the necessary investigations and take legal measures against them.
This operation comes in the wake of a similar announcement issued by the Drug Control Administration in cooperation with the Border Guard on September 25, which indicated the thwarting of another smuggling attempt coming from Lebanon, which included 24 kilograms of hashish and 113 bottles of alcoholic beverages, which were seized in an elaborate ambush before reaching their final destination.
