He said in a statement to the Russian “Novosti” agency: “One of the most common habits is the use of mobile phones in the bathroom.” He pointed out that a study conducted among ordinary users showed that about 80% of people take their phones with them to the toilet.
Tagouri added: “When you enter, for example, a public toilet, your fingers touch various surfaces, and then you touch your mobile phone. Therefore, everything you touched there eventually transfers to your phone. In addition, the process of drawing water into the toilet creates what is known as the ‘flying cloud effect,’ where very fine droplets can spread in the atmosphere and reach the phone placed next to you.”
He pointed to another problematic habit, which is using a smartphone while cooking and while sitting at the dining table.
He said: “When you eat and use your mobile phone at the same time, you provide the microorganisms on its surface with nutritional elements. If, for example, bread crumbs fall on the phone, you are feeding these microorganisms. In addition to that, humidity and heat; during a call, small droplets of saliva are transferred to the smartphone, in addition to it heating up during use or while it is in your pocket.”
“These three factors work together. That’s why we say that cell phones are five-star hotels for microorganisms,” Tagouri explained.
The world has paid special attention to workers who prepare or serve food and use their smartphones at the same time. He pointed out that in such cases, even gloves do not prevent cross-contamination if the person touches his phone with them and then returns to handling food. (Russia Today)
