Google allows the removal of the artificial intelligence tag

Company announced Google A new option is available that allows users to remove the visible watermark from content created using its AI tools, including photos, videos, and songs.

The company explained that canceling the visible mark will not affect the technology’s invisible watermarks SynthIDor metadata associated with a standard C2PAwhich allows you to verify that the content is generated by artificial intelligence.

Josh Woodward, Google’s vice president of Gemini, said the option to turn off the visible watermark will be available with models Nano Banana, Omni and LyriaThe setting will appear in the Gemini app and video editing tool FlowWhile support will reach the search service later.

The decision comes within the framework of a changing trend towards the method of tagging content created with artificial intelligence, as Google believes that visible watermarks may limit the use of content in some creative and professional fields, while at the same time maintaining invisible means of identifying its source.

The company confirmed that users will still be able to check whether an image is generated by artificial intelligence, despite the apparent tag being hidden, thanks to SynthID technology and C2PA data.

The feature is scheduled to begin rolling out gradually over the coming days, and when available, the user will be able to turn the watermark on or off through Settings > Media Watermark.

In a move related to content verification, Google also announced the open source of a new library called Credentioallows developers to integrate mechanisms to locally verify content credentials within their applications.

This comes days after a controversial step taken by the company Anthropicrepresented by adopting watermarks on the texts and files produced by its model, Claude, in compliance with European regulations.
